A person who spiked candy with sedative and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two young males who were between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the facility in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on recently.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he managed.

The man conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She stated the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.

The legal representative added: "This year his family member had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.

"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."

The prosecutor explained objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and injection devices were located, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained the man continued to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

Mrs Prior explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities again.

She explained the man then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
