The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Follows Poor Response

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster unveiling last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the requirement for a distinct vision.

The president stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to better meet player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions

The news follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the complete text from the president's communication:

Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and innovative developers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”

Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s the game demo was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the requirement for a sharper brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to heart and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our audience.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the remarkable progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the new Director of the team. Following several months of talks, he starts with us on the specified date.

His management and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having dedicated the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most popular series in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to keep witnessing the evolution of the game in the months to ahead.

Title Information and Vision

Project Ethos was announced in last year alongside a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union presented the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Face the competition with unique powers, challenges, and tests that shift every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, put it on the line, and hope your team can earn top ranking? The option is yours."

The game has not yet received an announced release date or platforms, but players can anticipate further news as development progresses.
